AJR is an up and coming NYC-born pop band that has something to say about Great Salt Lake. The band–which is made up of brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan–is in the middle of its 2024 tour around the United States, and recently performed two shows in Salt Lake City’s Delta Center. AJR is using its musical platform as a way to raise awareness for Great Salt Lake’s degradation. The group’s bassist Adam pointed out, “The Great Salt Lake is a critical ecosystem that supports incredible biodiversity and thousands of local jobs. But as climate change worsens, the lake is shrinking, leading to toxic dust storms and some of the worst air pollution in the country. We’re proud to partner with HEAL Utah and the Youth Coalition for the Great Salt Lake, helping us empower our Utah fans to take action by sending letters to their state legislators demanding they reduce water diversion to ensure a safe and prosperous Great Salt Lake for generations to come.”
Besides the band teaming with these two environmental groups to build support for the cause, Adam has also organized a nonprofit group dedicated to encouraging a bipartisan community of individuals focused on building a green energy United States–Planet Reimagined. AJR has asked their fans to write postcards to their Utah elected officials, pleading to take action in creating policies to save our lake.
You may not have been able to attend AJR’s concert in Salt Lake City this summer, but you can still follow this influential band’s invitation by writing to your local officials and asking for them to have a greater focus on the future of Great Salt Lake and the health of the people of Utah.
