Student Chapter Resources

Students are essential for change

Student chapters are the heart of grassroots activism. By joining or starting a chapter at your school, you become part of a community that is dedicated to preserving Great Salt Lake. These chapters can serve as the perfect platform to connect with like-minded individuals, brainstorm ideas, and turn your passion into action.

Our Vision for Student Chapters

1) Connecting students to the lake, and helping them feel empowered to get involved

2) Building a network of lake allies to help each other help the lake

3) Increase students’ knowledge of the lake and its challenges

4) Help craft and/or advocate legislation to help the lake

What can you do as part of a student chapter?

  • Educate your peers: Share facts about Great Salt Lake’s importance and the threats it faces. Host info sessions, distribute flyers, and spread the word on social media.
  • Fundraise and rally: Organize fundraisers to support organizations working to protect the lake. You can also plan rallies and marches to raise public awareness.
  • Collaborate with local organizations: Partner with environmental groups and local businesses to amplify your efforts.

Why it matters: Every action counts, and student chapters provide a powerful platform for collective action. When you come together, your voices are louder, and the impact is stronger.

Currently, Grow the Flow has Student Chapters at the following locations:

  • Brigham Young University
  • Utah Valley University
  • Salt Lake Community College
  • High Schools around Salt Lake (Youth Coalition for Great Salt Lake)
  • and more to come!
