What our volunteers are doing

At Grow the Flow, we always have exciting projects and events going on. From trips to the lake to letter writing activities, we like to stay engaged in our communities.

Letter Writing

Our recent “Speak for the Birds” letter-writing campaign in partnership with Central 9th Market collected over 100 letters supporting the Great Salt Lake. Participants received 20% off focaccia sandwiches for their efforts.

Lake Leadership Academy

Grow the Flow’s Student Chapters at UVU and SLCC engage students through weekend trips to explore the watershed. They’ve toured Bear River Canal, Antelope Island, and a brine shrimp facility, participated in environmental justice training, and more.

Business Playbook

We’ve created a playbook to help businesses support GSL conservation, offering advice on water conservation, messaging, and sponsorship. It’s a valuable resource for business owners wanting to make a positive environmental impact.

Water Policy for Dummies

Understanding water policy is crucial for the future of the Great Salt Lake. Our ambassador, a water policy expert, will break down complex legal language into simple, actionable insights in our upcoming newsletter.

Blog Posts

One of our international volunteers, Zoey, writes blog posts from Copenhagen, showcasing the global interest in supporting the Great Salt Lake and helping spread the word.

Art Making

Our creative volunteers get involved by donating artwork, making props for events, and hosting community art nights. Some have even helped build large wildlife puppets for vigils! One chapter is currently working on creating a traveling museum about the lake.

Hosting Nature Walks

Volunteers connect with the community through nature walks that blend outdoor recreation with education, offering a chance to explore local birds, plants, and more while building community.
